Dharma Master Cheng Yen advises methods to avoid wrongdoing and eliminate afflictions.

"In the midst of people, train yourself not to be tempted or influenced by external circumstances. Keep your mind pure and undefiled, like a bright mirror reflecting people, events, and things without leaving traces. In this way, one can dwell peacefully in the mundane world, light and unburdened," he said.

A resolute mind requires consistent practice. Only then can it remain unmoved in challenging situations. "Isolating oneself for cultivation may sever afflictions temporarily, but entering the world and engaging with people truly tests one's inner stability. Among the complexities of humanity, one’s mind and will are tempered over time."

Approach all beings with contentment, gratitude, understanding, and tolerance. "Through constant practice among people, one learns to face all situations with these qualities. When free from greed, anger, and ignorance, one naturally becomes a moral example, inspiring others through character."
